What an awesome time for soccer in the US! Not only are we able to watch great World Cup match this summer, but Team USA is representing and 
playing well!
I was honored to play alongside Clint Dempsey for two years when we were with the New England Revolution (of MLS). Although it was a small rookie class for the Revs that year (2004), Clint, me and Andy Dorman are still playing professionally and we all still keep in touch. Clint and I remain pals and I was honored to attend his wedding and the Baptism of his first child (he now has 3). We catch up whenever he comes to Denver with the Sounders or to DC in the summer (when I play with the Richmond Kickers of USL PRO).
It is funny looking back on our time together as rookies in the MLS since he was basically a “nobody” at that time. He was an amazing player. It was easy to see from training with him every day that he would have a great career (he went on to win “Rookie of the Year” in 2004). However, his stardom was not even a small fraction of where it is today. Clint and I would go to appearances for the Revolution and people would say to me “aren’t you the local soccer star turned pro?” (I grew up in MA) and they wouldn’t even know who Clint was. I would joke with him about it since he was starting and I was sitting on the bench and he often wouldn’t get recognized. We also did some coaching together and he helped me work with the local youth. Clint was very impressed with these sessions and was happy to endorse my coaching along with the Mighty Kicks Program. Mighty Kicks is thankful to Clint for his support of our work at developing stronger youth through soccer.
The rest is history and now Clint Dempsey is a Soccer Super Star and Captain America for Team USA! It is with great joy that I watch him and team USA perform at the World Cup. I wish all the best to Clint and Team USA!
